    MORE TROUBLE IN SOUTH VIETNAM. A WAVE OF ANTI-GOVERNMENT DEMONSTRATIONS HAS KEPT SAIGON POLICE BUSY THIS WEEK. ON SUNDAY, A BUDDHIST DEMONSTRATION BROKE UP WHEN POLICE CHARGED INTO THE MOB.

    ABOUT 4,000 PEOPLE TOOK PART IN THE PROTEST. DEMANDS WERE MADE FOR THE RESIGNATION OF THE PRIME MINISTER, MR TRAN VAN HUONG, AND HIS ALL-CIVILIAN GOVERNMENT OF LESS THAN THREE WEEKS OLD.

    ARMED TROOPS STOOD BY TO HELP THE POLICE IF NECESSARY. AFTER THE DEMONSTRATORS IGNORED SEVERAL WARNING TO DISPERSE, THE SECURITY FORCES CHARGED. TEAR-GAS GRENADES WERE LOBBED. SEVERAL DEMONSTRATORS WERE INJURED BY POLICE TRUNCHEONS, WHILE MANY OTHERS WERE ARRESTED.

    (MORE DEMONSTRATIONS TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY AND TODAY. THE PRIME MINISTER BLAMED A NUMBER OF DISSATISFIED POLITICIANS FOR INSTIGATING THE PROTESTS. HE SAID THAT SOME OF THE ARRESTED WOULD BE CONSCRIPTED AND SENT TO TRAINING CAMPS.)
