Background: Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco were made honorary citizens of Ostend yesterday (June 25) during an official visit to celebrate the twinning of the city with Monaco.
Ostend was in festive mood and the visit came as a climax to four days of celebrations.
On their arrival the Prince and Princess were greeted by Burgomaster Van Glabbeke at the city's monument dedicated to seafarers and were then introduced to the civic fathers.
Prince Rainier laid a tribute at the monument before beginning a tour of the city and an inspection of a festival hall, built for the occasion. There the Prince received the diploma making His Highness an honorary citizen.
