    Thai Military leaders seized power on Thursday night in a bloodless coup ousting the year-old government of Prime Minister Thanin ???.

    Troops moved in swiftly after the 6 pm announcement to guard key installation in Bangkok a bustling city of five million people.

    An announcement read over the Radio Thailand said a Revolutionary Council headed by Admiral Sa-Ngad Chaloryoo, took over the power and promised elections would be held next year.

    Admiral Sa-Ngad, 62-year-old Defence Minister in Thanin's government said last year's constitution would be abolished and the Cabinet and National Assembly dissolved.

    But he pledged there wold be no change in the country's basic institutions, and King Bhumibol Adulyadej remained head of state.

    Material law would be retained and I am to 4:30 am curfew in Bangkok would remain unchanged and warned that political gatherings of more than four people would be punished.

    Admiral Sa-Ngad was heading his second post-coup military administration having led the Administration Reform Council which took power in a coup on October 6 last year.
