  • Description

Henry Aarons, America's top living baseball star equalled another of Babe Ruth's records when he hit his 722nd home run in regular season baseball at Atlanta on Wednesday (29 May).

The homer, in the 10th innings, gave the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Fillies.

Counting home runs in regular season play as well as the World Series and All Star games, Aaron now has 730 homers, the same as Ruth. Earlier this year Aaron topped Ruth's mark of 714 homers in regular season games alone. He has hit nine homers this season.

Aaron, 40, has announced he will retire this October. Already some of the bats and balls he has used in his career have been collectors items, valued at a quarter of a million dollars (GBP 200,000 sterling).

Following is a transcript of the commentary as Aaron scores his latest homer.

SYNOPSIS: With his retirement only five months away Aarons baseball gear is already becoming sought after by collectors with a number of bats, balls and caps insured for a quarter of a million dollars.
