  • Description

The bodies of two airmen, recovered from the USAF Transport plane which crashed on Soviet territory in September, last year, were buried at Arlington Military Cemetery, U.S.A. Feb 6, with full military honours.

Seventeen fliers lost their lives when their C-130 transport was brought down near the Russian-Turkish border, Sept. 2. Four of the six bodies returned by the Russians on Sept. 24 have been identified - but the identity of the men buried Feb 6 is "unknown".

The Transport plane incident has been brought to the forefront again with the American State department allegation (Feb 5) that Russian fighters deliberately shot down the aircraft.

The Americans said they had obtained a transcript of a mid-air conversation between Soviet fighter pilots attacking an unarmed American transport plane. Two days later, Moscow Radio accused the State Department of "fabricating" the tape recording and maintained that the plane had crashed over the Armenian border.
