Background: The Olympic Games have provided the inspiration for Moscow fashion designers in their Spring and Summer collection.
SYNOPSIS: Clothes are divided into categories according to use, coats and suits for outdoor wear and work, sports and recreational clothes, and special occasion outfits. These coats and dresses, with their simple straight lines, are classic, with a hint of the military. The mid-length of the skirt is still below the new mini-lengths of the European designers.
For more casual wear, beige, and a simple classic line to this mix-and-match set of separates.
The sporting theme starts here. The trim is echoed on the hats, and the Olympic influence becomes obvious.
Special occasion clothes for discos and parties. Soviet fashion designers use smooth, shiny and sparkling fabrics for both day and evening wear. The Soviet national Fashion House employs fifty designers who, between them, produce more than three thousand designs a year for men, women and children. Of these, eighty percent are mass-produced.
Classic designs, muted colours and natural fabrics are the Russian fashion themes. Soviet fashion designers claim they led the world with the recent "ethnic" fashions based on the elaborately-ornamented Russian national costume - this collection is a swing in the opposite direction.
