    THE MUD-SPATTERED SURVIVORS OF THE 1969 MONTE CARLO RALLY STARTED ARRIVING IN MONTE CARLO, MONACO, THIS MORNING (MONDAY) AFTER A 2,000 MILE (3,200 KMS) JOURNEY. DAWN WAS STILL BREAKING OVER THE PRINCIPALITY WHEN THE FIRST CAR ARRIVED IN THE CITY RIGHT ON SCHEDULE. MANY OF THE WORKS ENTRANT CARS ARE STILL UNPENALISED, SO THE RALLY WILL NOW BOIL DOWN TO A STRAIGHT RACE DURING THE SPECIAL SPEED TESTS THROUGH THE ICY FRENCH ALPS THIS WEEK.
