Background: Oct 13, Princess Alexandra of Kent attended a big, hour-long durbar at Sokoto, Northern Nigeria, part of the Nigerian independence celebrations.
Africans gave her an enthusiastic welcome. Some, apparently over-enthusiastic, crowded around her and only moved away when asked to by a stately chieftain.
During the durbar, as horsemen performed a spectacular charge, one rider fell from his horse just in front of the Princess.
Later, she flew to Maidujuri for another Durbar.
