THE MACHINES WERE ASSEMBLED IN SINGAPORE AND PUT THROUGH A SERIES OF JUNGLE-FLYING CONDITIONS BEFORE BEING BROUGHT TO MALAYSIAN BORNEO. SECURITY FORCES (BRITISH, MALAYSIAN AND AUSTRALIAN) WILL USE IT AGAINST INDONESIAN INCURSIONS ALONG THE 900-MILE SARAWAK BORDER. THE MACHINES WILL ALSO BE USED AS RECONNAISSANCE AND LIAISON AIRCRAFT BY THE SECURITY FORCES, ARTILLERY AND ARMOURED CAR UNITS.

THE NEW MACHINES WILL SUPPLEMENT THE SCOUT HELICOPTER AND LIGHT AIRCRAFT STRENGTH OF THE FORCES IN MALAYSIA, PROVIDED UP TO NOW BY 656 SQUADRON OF THE ARMY AIR CORPS AND THE ROYAL AIR FORCE.

THERE ARE FEW ROADS IN THE MOUNTAINOUS, JUNGLE-COVERED TERRITORIES OF MALAYSIAN SARAWAK AND SABAH AND THE ONLY SWIFT MEANS OF MOVING ABOUT IS BY HELICOPTER. THE ARRIVAL OF THE SIOUX HELICOPTERS MARKS THE IMPLEMENTATIONS OF THE BRITISH ARMY CHANGE IN THE FAR EAST.
