Background: The morning session of the second day of the Congress was taken up by further discussion addresses to the report on the activity of the Central Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party. The first of the attending delegates from abroad to speak was the first Secretary of the United Socialist Party of Germany, Walter Ulbricht. In his address he said that the citizens of the German Democratic Republic are sincerely pleased with the successes that Czecholovakia has achieved under the leadership of the Czechoslovak Communist Party, Mr. Ulbricht further spoke on the question of Germany and on the problems of European security. He said, the United Socialist Party of Germany and the National Front of Democratic Germany will in the future continue to strive to achieve that no future was ever originates from Germany and that they will cooperate for this aim with the working class and all peace loving forces of Western Germany. That is the reason, said Walter Ulbricht, that the United Socialist Party of Germany addressed an open letter to the Social Democratic Party of West Germany and thus began the exchange of opinions on the important and basic issues of the life of the working classes.
The next guest from abroad to address the Congress was the member of the Politbureau of the Polish United Workers' Party, Edward Ochab. In his speech Mr. Ochab said, that the continuous growth of the closest cooperation with the Soviet Union, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the other fraternal socialist countries is of the greatest aid for the building of socialism in Poland. In the next part of his address, Edward Ochab spoke on the international situation. He said that the fundamental problem standing before the nations of the whole world, is the ending of the barbarian aggression of American imperialism in Vietnam. We believe, said Edward Ochab, that the active unity of all Communist parties and anti-imperialist forces in the whole world is the most important prerequisite for the successful victory against the aggression of the United States and for the active help to the national liberation movements throughout the world.
