    The study committee of an African electircal energy organisation has been discussing how to lmporve electrical engineering in Africa at a meeting in the Ivory coast capital, Abidjan.

    The Union of Producers, Conveyors and Distributors of Electirc Energy in Africa, Madagascar and Mauritius (UPDEA) debated the standard of professional training of electrical engineers in Africa and prospective financial sources for UPDEA training projects.

    The Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Togo and Zaire belong to the UPDEA.

    Mr. Georges Anch Koutouan, Asitant Director General of the Ivory coast electircd Energy Company, was chairman of the three day meeting which ended on Saturday (11 May). The delegates also visited Abidjan's Central Computer ??? fice. The Ivory Coast is the first black African country to have the machines which run most of the country's energy business.

    In his welcoming speech Mr. Koutouan told the delegates they must remember how essential it was to their country's societies that they put the training schemes into action as soon as possible.
