  • Description

THOSE ATTENDING THE PERFORMANCE OF "TEXAS", THE PAUL GREEN DRAMA BEING presented nightly in the Palo Dure Amphitheatre, were surprised when Lawrence Hagy, former Amarillo Mayor and Oil Man introduced Miss Lynda Bird Johnson ...daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Following the introduction, Eddie Thomas, who plays the male lead of Calvin Armstrong, went into the audience and presented Miss Johnson with a minature triangle - the type used to call the hands & to meals - a gift usually given to the person in the audience who has travelled the farthest to see the production. Armstrong told Lynda Bird, "Come back and bring your mommy and daddy with you." In addition to six secret service men, Miss Johnson was escorted by Joe Batson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jo Ernest Batson of 1522 Rusk. She is reportedly a house guest of the Batson's and was reportedly seen as early as Saturday riding some of the rides at an Amarillo Amusement Park. Yet another reported seeing her water ski-ing at Lake Meredith (Monday) yesterday afternoon. The trip to Amarillo was apparently cloaked in secrecy with no advance notice of Miss Johnson's plans to be in Amarillo. Another report said that Lynda attended a cocktail party following the performance of "Texas" last night. She is believed to be still visiting the Batson's this morning.....No information is available as to where she will go from Amarillo.
