The Swedish Prime Minister, Mr. Olof Palme, twelve wives of American Prisoners of War in Washington on Monday (June 8). He told them he would do everything he could to obtain information about their husbands.
Mr. Palme, who is on a private visit to the United States, declined to say what steps the Swedish Government was taking to obtain the information. Earlier in his visit, Mr. Palme was heckled at a degree ceremony by dockers, in protest against his country's relations with North Vietnam, to which Sweden has given large amount of aid.
The Swedish Prime Minister said that even if the American thrust across the Cambodian border was a military success, it would be a political land moral defeat for the United States. He also defended his Government's action in providing political asylum to American deserters and draft evaders.
