  • Description

Three British and two United States actors have been nominated for the Best Actor category in the U.S. film industry's Oscar awards, which will be made in Hollywood on Tuesday (27 March).

The three British actors are Michael Caine and Sir Laurence Olivier, nominated for their performances in "Sleuth", and Peter O'Toole, nominated for his part in "The Ruling Class".

The United States artists nominated are Paul Winfield, a black actor, for his performance in "Sounder", and Marlon Brando, for "The Godfather."
If Marlon Brando wins the award, there could be complications, as he has turned down all offers of awards for his role in "The Godfather" and has instructed his studio, Paramount Pictures, that he does not want anyone else to pick them up in his name.

SYNOPSIS: Sir Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine are among the five actors nominated for this year's Oscar award for Best Actor. The Oscars will be presented in Hollywood on Tuesday. Olivier and Caine were nominated for their respective performances in the thriller film, "Sleuth".

One of the two United States actors nominated for the award is Paul Winfield, who stats in "Sounder", which deals with the plight of a black family in the southern United States in the 1930's.

The third British actor nominated is Peter O'Toole, for his part as a zany member of the British aristocracy in the film, "The Ruling Class".
