  • Description

A FIRE WHICH DESTROYED 50,000 BALES OF COTTON AND THE TEXTILE MILL IN WHICH THEY WERE STORED MAY HAVE BEEN STARTED BY SABOTEURS, POLICE CLAIMED IN LA PAZ, BOLIVIA.

THE COTTON DESTROYED WAS WORTH ABOUT GBP410,000 STERLING, AND POLICE ARE WORKING ON THE THEORY THAT THE FIRE WAS STARTED BY ECONOMIC SABOTEURS WITH THE AIM OF DISRUPTING NATIONAL PRODUCTION.

BACKING THEIR THEORY IS THE FACT THAT FIRES DO NOT START EASILY IN LA PAZ. BECAUSE OF THE HIGH ALTITUDE THE AIR IS THIN AND LACKING IN OXYGEN.

THREE FIREMEN WERE INJURED FIGHTING THE BLAZE. AFTER THE FIRE HAD BEEN PUT OUT TROOPS MOVED IN TO CLEAR UP.
