The President of the Ivory Coast, M. Felix Houphouet-Boigny and his wife arrived in Holland?
The President of the Ivory Coast, M. Felix Houphouet-Boigny and his wife arrived in Holland today (June 2) on a three-day official visit.
The President is the first of the Heads of State of the newly independent African countries to pay an official visit to Holland. The Republic of the Ivory Coast was formerly a french Colony.
The President and his wife arrived in Holland by air, landing at a military airbase near Utrecht. They were welcomed there by Crown Princes Beatrix and her husband Prince Claus on behalf of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard.
From Utrecht the party travelled to Amsterdam by train and were greeted by The Queen and her Consort. They then drove to the Royal Palace in the heart of the city in open coaches, escorted by States Police in ceremonial uniforms.
The first official action of President Houphouet-Boigny was to lay a wreath on the National War Monument.
