    Background: At Bad Gastein, police are using the winter sports traffic rush to test a new type of police platform for controlling traffic. Manufactured by the Focke-Wulf firm, it comprises a platform with a central pillar which extends telescopically by hydraulic action. One of the device's chief attractions is that it weights only 750kg and can be packed on top of a police car when collapsed. The hydraulic system is powered electrically from a 12 volt (car) battery.
