  • Description

The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Lord Killanin, told a news conference in Barcelona on Sunday (17 October) that he hoped the "lesson of the Montreal Olympics has been learnt". The conference came after the IOC's nine-man executive board had held a week of meetings in the Spanish city to study the problems of last summer's Olympics and to begin planning the 1980 Games in the Soviet Union.

SYNOPSIS: Lord Killanin said a careful check would have to be kept on preparations for future Olympics.

Later, Lord Killanin was asked if the IOC shouldn't have taken a more positive stand over the Montreal Games and rebuked Canada and the black African nations who boycotted the Olympics.
