    The Mets won the World Series of baseball on Thursday (16 Oct.) before 57,397 spectators in Shea Stadium. They defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 5-3, for their fourth straight victory of the Series. The Orioles only won the first game.

    Baltimore took an early three run lead when their pitcher Dave McNally hit a two run home run in the third inning and Frank Robinson followed with another home run in the same inning.

    Then Met pitcher, Jerry Koosman who had won the second game of the series, settled down and allowed only one more hit during the rest of the game.

    The Mets stormed back with two runs in the sixth inning on Donn Clendenon's third home run of the series. In the seventh inning the usually light hitting Al Weis tied the score on a home run. The Met went ahead in the eight inning when Cleon Jones doubled and then scored on another doubled by Ron Swobada..Then Jerry Grote hit a low line drive toward first base. The First Baseman, John Powell made an error on the play and Swoboda scored. That made that score 5-3. Koosman held Baltimore scoreless in the ninth inning and the Mets were the baseball champions of the world.
