  • Description

A touching reunion took place at copenhagen Airport, Denmark, Mar 5. A small Lithuanian family were brought together for the first time since 1940, when their country was occupied by Russian troops and Mr. John Armonas and daughter, Donna, escaped to America, leaving mother and son in their home-town of Pasvalys, Lithuania.

Years of fruitless attempts were made by Mr. Armonas to obtain an entry visa into his native land - and Mrs. Armonas to obtain an exit permit to join her husband. In 1959, Soviet Premier Krushchev visited the U.S.A., and, after unsuccessful attempts had been made by Mr. Armonas to see him, Mr. Krushchev's attention was brought to the matter by a press report and he promised to grant an exit visa to Mrs. Armonas.

A 20-year-old dream became wonderful reality therefore when mother and son flew into Copenhagen to be embraced by waiting husband and daughter.
