    THE LEADERS OF PAKISTAN, TURKEY AND IRAN BEGAN SUMMIT TALKS IN A ROYAL PALACE ON THE SHORES OF THE CASPIAN SEA IN NORTH IRAN YESTERDAY (SATURDAY). THE TALKS WERE TO ASSESS THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT ON THEIR OWN COUNTRIES AS NON-ARAB MOSLEM NATIONS.

    PRESIDENT AYUB KHAN OF PAKISTAN, PRIME MINISTER SULEIMAN DEMIREL OF TURKEY AND SHAH MOHAMMED REZA PAHLEVI OF IRAN MET FOR TWO-AND-A-HALF HOURS.

    THEY ALSO TALKED ABOUT A FUTURE COURSE OF ACTION SHOULD WAR BREAK OUT AGAIN BETWEEN THE ARABS AND ISRAEL. ONE OF THE MAIN ITEMS ON THE AGENDA WAS EXPECTED TO BE THE FUTURE OF THE WESTERN-ALIGNED CENTRAL TREATY ORGANISATION (CENTO) PACT.

    PAKISTAN HAS EXPRESSED OPEN DISSATISFACTION WITH THIS, SINCE THE UNITED STATES AND BRITAIN REFUSED TO HELP IN THE PAKISTAN CONFLICT WITH INDIA. THE THREE STATES HAVE NOW FORMED A REGIONAL CO-OPERATION ORGANISATION FOR DEVELOPMENT AMONG THEMSELVES.

    PRESIDENT AYUB WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. SHARIFUDDIN PIRZADA AND THE TURKISH PRIME MINISTER WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. IHSAN SABRI CAGLAYANGIL.

    THE IRANIAN PRIME MINISTER, AMIR ABBAS HOVEIDA, WHO WAS ON A 10-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE SOVIET UNION RETURNED TO IRAN TO TAKE PART IN THE TALKS ALONG WITH THE FOREIGN MINISTER, ARDESHIR Y. ZAHEDI.

    IN THE SOVIET UNION PRIME MINISTER HOVEIDA HAD ISSUED A JOINT CALL WITH HIS SOVIET COUNTERPART, MR. ALEXI KOSYGIN, FOR THE EVACUATION OF ALL ARAB LAND CONQUERED BY ISRAEL DURING LAST MONTH'S FIVE-DAY WAR.
