  • Description

More than two thousand members of the Indian Jana Sangh political party marched in procession on Sunday (June 28) to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, alleging persecution of Hindus in East Pakistan.

The demonstrators carried saffron Jana Sangh flags, and shouted slogans demanding that Pakistan should stop evicting and persecuting the Hindus, and provide land on which they can settle.

On reaching the gates of the Pakistan High Commission the demonstrators staged a sit-down on its front lawns.

Here the Jana Sangh leaders, such as Muslim Anwar Dehlavi, addressed the very noisy, but peaceful demonstration. Jana Sangh is a nation-wide party with a predominance of Hindu members.

The demonstration ended with the posting of a memorandum of protest on the gates of the Pakistan High Commission by Jana Sangh Member of Parliament.

The memorandum alleged that the flow of Hindu refugees from East Pakistan had assumed 'scandalous proportions'.

It claimed that Hindus have been barred from high office in Pakistan, and reduced to the rank of second class citizens.

Their treatment is so inhuman said the memorandum, that "They prefer a refugee camp in India to their own ancestral hearth and home in Pakistan."
