    Bomb blasts tore apart dozens of buildings in the heart of Londonderry on Wednesday (12 July) while Protestants throughout Norther Ireland were marching in their biggest celebration parades of the year.

    The biggest bomb, estimated at about 150 pounds of gelignite, was detonated in the heart of the ???lty's shopping centre. A gas main was fractured and the are was cordoned off because of the danger of a gas explosion. The bomb, placed in a car outside a newsstand, wrecked a large chain store, two restaurants and dozens of shops.

    Two further bomb explosions partly destroyed a ballroom and set disused cafe afire.

    The fourth bomb exploded in the ??? ??? Factory, the object of three previous un???ful bomb attempts. Four men had driven the van con???ining the bomb onto the works y??? where ??? parts are manufactured. There were no ??? in the bombing and the explosions did not take place near the routes of any of the Protestant Orange Parades.
