    THE EVENING NEWS RACE WAS OVER A DISTANCE OF 66.25 MILES (ABOUT 106 KILOMETERS). HAILWOOD, 26, RIDING A 350 C.C. HONDA, CAME TO THE RACE FRESH FROM A THREE-CLASS WIN IN THE CZECH GRAND PRIX. WINNER COOPER, RIDING A 500 C.C. NORTON, IS POPULARLY KNOWN AS "MOON EYES" - BECAUSE HE WEARS CONTACT LENSES.
