Background: Hundreds of Greek students conducted an angry demonstration in Athens, Jun 4, protesting against the report recently submitted to N.A.T.O. by Italy, stating that Albania's frontiers embrace the Greek province of Epiros. Following demands made by the Greek Government, Italy requested NATO to withdraw the report, but Greek Foreign Minister Averoff said that his country did not regard this request as giving "adequate satisfaction".
Carrying slogans reading "Keep your hands off Greek Epiros" and "Italians come and get it", the crowds marched on the Italian Embassy where they were eventually dispersed after police had made several arrests. Similar demonstrations have recently taken place at Jannina - capital of Epiros - Salonica and Florina.
The Greek Government are to await the results of an inquiry into the incident by the Italian Government before taking any further steps in the matter.
