  • Description

Pakistan's Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto re-shuffled his cabinet on Thursday (5 February) and increased the number of his ministers from eleven to sixteen.

He appointed two new ministers and promoted three ministers of state. He also made General Tikka Khan, who retires as Army Chief of Staff at the end of the month, his special assistant for National Security, with the rank of a cabinet minister.

The re-shuffle had been expected for some time but there had been speculation that some ministers would be dropped.

The housing ministry is one of two new ministries created by the Prime Minister, the other being the ministry of social welfare, local government and rural development.

The Prime Minister has retained his portfolios as minister of defence and foreign affairs.
