    REPORTS THAT A WARRANT HAS BEEN ISSUED BY AUSTRIAN AUTHORITIES FOR THE ARREST OF HERR OTTO SKORZENY, A FORMER NAZI SS COLONEL, RECALLS ONE OF THE FAMOUS EXPLOITS OF THE 1939-45 WAR.

    HERR SKORZENY, NOW 54 AND LIVING IN SPAIN, IS WANTED BY THE AUSTRIAN JUSTICE MINISTRY, FOR TRIAL ON WAR CRIMES CHARGES. DETAILS OF THE CHARGES HAVE NOT BEEN REVEALED.

    IN 1943, HERR SKORZENY RESCUED MUSSOLINI FROM ITALY AFTER THE FALL OF THE FASCIST GOVERNMENT IN 1943. SKORZENY LED A DARING RAID BY PICKED GLIDER TROOPS WHO SWOOPED ON AN ITALIAN HILL TOP HOTEL TO RESCUE MUSSOLINI.

    IN 1944, HERR SKORZENY LED ANOTHER EXPLOIT WHEN HE COMMANDED TROOPS. DISGUISED IN BRITISH AND AMERICAN UNIFORMS, WHO INFILTRATED THROUGH ALLIED LINES DURING THE "BATTLE OF THE BULGE" IN THE ARDENNES.

    AFTER THE WAR, HERR SKORZENY FACED A NUMBER OF WAR CRIMES CHARGES, INCLUDING PARTICIPATION IN THE TORTURE AND SLAUGHTER OF ABOUT ONE HUNDRED UNARMED US PRISONER DURING THE BATTLE, BUT HE WAS ACQUITTED.

    VISNEWS FILM SHOWS HERR SKORZENY IN DUBLIN, IRELAND ON MAY 30, 1959, DURING AN EIGHT DAY VISIT. HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS WIFE, ILSE, AND HE WAS QUOTED AT THE TIME AS SAYING THAT HE WANTED TO BY A FARM AND SETTLE IN IRELAND.

    WARTIME FILM ALSO SHOWS MUSSOLINI AFTER HIS RESCUE ARRIVING IN GERMANY AND BEING GREETED BY HITLER AFTER THE 1942 RESCUE FLIGHT FROM ITALY.

    HERR SKORZENY IS AT PRESENT HEAD OF AN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING FIRM IN MADRID, CAPITAL OF SPAIN.
