    Commonwealth memorial monument for 1557 soldiers, sailors and airmen and one War Correspondent, from Commonwealth nations and South African, then member of Commonwealth, buried in United Nations memorial Cemetery, were dedicated at the Pusan U.N. Cemetery on 24 May, the Commonwealth day.

    Lieutenant General Sir William Pike, KCB, CVE, DSO, who has flown from London for the occasion, unveiled the Commonwealth and South African Memorial to the British, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian and South African soldiers who laid down their lives in the Korean War. The memorial stands in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan.

    Attending the ceremony which took place at 2.30 p.m. on the Commonwealth day were 150 United Kingdom and Commonwealth soldiers Specially flown to Korea to take part.

    General Pike was commander Royal Artillery First Commonwealth Division in Korea in 1951-2. This occasion is his first return to Korea since that time.

    Music for the ceremony was played by the Band and Bufles of the Durham Light Infantry, and the Pipers of The Kings Own Scottish Borderers.

    Among the distinguished guest ware Sir walter Godfrey, the ambassador of British embassy General Hamilton H. Howze, the commander in chief of the United Nations command, and other high ranking officers and officials.
