  • Description

A derelict building allegedly used as Soviet spy school has been discovered by Trikish authorities in Istanbul, on the banks of the Bosphorus straits. It was discovered, according to Turkish intelligence authorities, on information gleaned from captured Soviet spies.

According to the intelligence reports, spies trained there over a number of years, from at least 1963, have been dispersed throughout the Middle East and Europe. Its director was at one time Mr. Garovboris Cerezov, a Soviet vice-consul in Istanbul.

While a Visnews cameraman was filming the building recently, as Soviet warships passed through the straits on their way to the Mediterranean, a diplomatic car drew up outside and its Russian driver attempted to stop him.

SYNOPSIS: A derelict building allegedly used as a Soviet spy school has been discovered in Istanbul by Turkish intelligence authorities. The building, on the banks of the Bosphorous straits overlooking the passage of Soviet warships to the Mediterranean Sea, was discovered on information gleaned from Soviet spies captured by Turkish authorities. According to the Turkish intelligence reports, the captured spies said the school was once run by a Soviet vice-consul in Istanbul.

Over the school, a hammer and sickle emblem -- symbol of the Soviet Union. The building, which appears derelict and deserted, overlooks a small forest from which, say news reports, people can slip in and out of the building unobserved. While this film was being shot, a diplomatic car arrived outside the allege spy school -- and its Russian driver attempted to stop the cameraman.

According to Turkish intelligence, spies were trained here from at least 1963, and have been dispersed throughout the Middle East and Europe on espionage duties. Turkish authorities have also linked left-wing underground activity in Turkey with the spy school.
