Background: King Hassan of Morocco and his two sons have led the nation in prayer at a religious service to mark the Moslem feast of Ramadan. The king drove from his palace in Rabat to the city's huge central Mosque. During Ramadan, the devout Moslems neither eat nor drink between sunrise and sunset. Morocco is one of the few nations in the world where religious observance is on the increase. Nearly 150 new Mosques have been built in the country in the last ten years.

King Hassan and his two sons, Prince Sidi Mohammed and Prince Moulay Hicham, led his nation in prayer when he attended a service in Rabat's huge central Mosque.

Morocco is one of the few nations in the world where religious observance is on the increase. In the past ten years nearly 150 new mosques have been built bringing the number of mosques in the country to around 13,000. With a population of 16 million people this works out to one mosque for every 550 adult worshippers. Ramadan lasts for one month, at the end of it the people take part in huge feasts in what is called the Idd EI Fitr festival.
