    Background: JANUARY 1917
Frost and snow covered Russia in January 1917. World War One was going on for three years. It was a bloody battle of imperialists for a new division of the World, for colonies. They tried to divert the attention of people's masses from revolutionary struggle. The soldiers froze in the trenches. Emperor Nikolai II called them to deeds for the glory of the empire. Every day thousands of lives were lost in the war. One regiment after another was sent to the front. At the same time the officers and rich nobles spent their time in drunk entertainments. The profits of imperialists grew incredulously on war. New taxes took away the last that they had from the working class. Despair and poverty entered each house. Devastation and desolation. Hunger began in the cities. Reaction reigned in the country. The best men of Russia were being arrested and sent to exile. Among them were Bolshevik deputees of the Statue Duman. The leader of Bolsheviks Lenin was in ???gration in Zurich, Switzerland, where he continued to work thoroughly analysing the situation which was forming in Russia and in the whole world. Many important theoretical works were written by Lenin in Zurich. The victory of Socialism is inevitable - wrote Lenin in his works. The Bolshevik party continued to carry out revolutional work among soldiers, sailors and workers despite the reaction. Short leaflets, at times written by ???, brought to people words of truth, called them to struggle against ???. A revolutionary situation was forming in the country. About 360 thousand people took part in strikes in Russia in January 1917. Great revolutionary events were nearing.
