    PUBLIC HEARING IN THE SOUTH WEST AFRICA DISPUTE BETWEEN SOUTH AFRICA, LIBERIA AND ETHIOPIA BEGAN AT THE INTERNATIONAL COURT AT THE HAGUE, HOLLAND, TODAY (MONDAY).THE WORLD COURT WILL BE ASKED TO ADJUDICATE ON THE DISPUTED STATUS OF SOUTH WEST AFRICA.

    THE CASE AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA WAS BROUGHT BY LIBERIA AND ETHIOPIA IN NOVEMBER 1960 WHEN THESE TWO COUNTRIES ALLEGED THAT SOUTH AFRICA HAD VIOLATED THE TERMS OF THE ORIGINAL LEAGUE OF NATIONS MANDATE.CHARGES OF APARTHEID ARE A KEY ISSUE IN THE "PROSECUTION'S CASE.THE WORLD COURT HAS BEEN DEALING WITH THE CASE EVER SINCE 1960.

    SOUTH AFRICAN CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYERS HAVE BEEN PREPARING THEIR COUNTRY'S CASE SINCE THE CHARGES WERE ORIGINALLY LAID.IN THE HAGUE TONIGHT ARE TEN ADVOCATES LED BY STATE ADVOCATE MR.D.P.DE VILLIERS.

    THE DECISION OF THE WORLD COURT WILL BE SENT TO THE SECURITY COUNCIL OF THE UNITED NATIONS WHICH WILL THEN DECIDE ON FURTHER ACTION.
