    The ad hoc committee on African Cultural affairs began a two-day session in the Senegalese capital -- Dakar -- on wednesday (2 June).
    The main task of the Committee was to prepare the details of a Common Cultural Charter, which will be presented at the next Conference of African Cultural Ministers, to be held in Accra, the Ghanaian capital.
    The ad hoc Committee's meetings were attended by Ministers from Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, nigeria and Sierra Leone. Also present were observers from UNESCO, the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and the Institute Cultural African at Malagache (ICAM).

    ...Where the ad hoc Committee on african Cultural Affairs opened two days of meetings last Wednesday. The Senegalese Cultural Minister -- Mr. Alioune Sene -- welcomed the delegates. They included Ministers from the Republic of Gabon, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, the Ivory coast and Ghana -- the six nations represented on the Committee.
    Mr. Sene outlined the Committee's main task, which was to prepare the details of a Common Cultural Charter for presentation to the next conference of Africa Cultural Minister in Ghana's capital, Accra.
    Observers from UNESCO were also present.
    Several of the delegatees were able to address the committee on the first day...and the last to speak was the Cultural Minister from the Republic of Gabon -- Mr. Emmanuel Mefane. He asked his colleagues to consider broadening the Committee's base by admitting more nations.
