Background: There have been Religious missions in the Congo since 1900.

The Government and people have looked to them for continued and devoted help in the Education and Medical services.

    Nearly all are Belgian.

LOVANIUM University has 400 students and 25 Catholic Professors
The NATIVE Hospital has 1200 beds and 60 people wait every day to replace outgoing patients
The Lepro Leper colony has 100 Patients and Six Catholic Staff.

In remoter parts of the Congo these Missionaries have suffered badly in the hands of the uprising tribesmen, in recent months.
