Under the Dutch Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. van Houten, the Common Market?
Under the Dutch Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. van Houten, the Common Market Council of Ministers met in Brussels, Dec 20, to discuss import duties for newsprint into the "six". Part of the session was devoted to the problem of an association between Common Market countries and Greece.
On newsprint the Ministers fixed duty at 7 per cent for the paper used by daily publications and 16 per cent for periodicals. Proposals which the Ministers recently drafted for an association with Greece have not met with the complete approval of the Greek Government.
The main difficulty is brought about by the Greek demand which would allow them to import goods for local consumption at duties below the Common Market external tariffs. On this the Council decided to resume talks in January.
