    Ivory Coast Foreign Minister Arsene Assouan Usher opened a meeting of experts on Ghana-Ivory Coast co-operation in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Wednesday.

    The meeting, the second of its kind, is to draft a series of agreements on commerce, payment procedures, shipping lines, judicial co-operation, and other topics.

    During their discussions, the two sides are attempting to give concrete expression to the Ghana-Ivory Coast Friendship Treaty, which was signed in Abidjan in May last year by Ghanaian Prime Minister Kofi Busia and President Felix Houphouet-Boigny.

    In his speech at the opening of the joint session, Foreign Minister Usher made special mention of the fact that the Joint Commission for Ivoro-Ghanaian Co-operation is beating the linguistic barrier between French and English-speaking Africans. Ghana is English-speaking, the Ivory Coast French-speaking.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Agricultural Board Building in Abidjan on Wednesday, visiting experts from Ghana had a joint meeting with their Ivory Coast counterparts on the developing co-operation between the two countries. Ivory Coast Foreign Minister Arsene Assouan Usher opened the meeting, the purpose of which is to draft a series of agreements on commerce, payment procedures, shipping lines, judicial co-operation and other topics.     The experts' session will be followed on May twenty-second by a ministerial council in Accra, where the final documents on bilateral economic co-operation will be signed.
