  • Description

20 ships from 8 nations taking part in the 1960 Sail Training ship Regatta, sailed July 14 from Oslo to the small Norwegian town of Horten. July 16 they began the Ocean Race from Ferder, Norway, to Ostend, Belgium.

Among the prizes to be awarded to competing crews and individuals are two presented by King Haakon of Norway and King Baudouin of Belgium.

Ships assembled in Oslo July 10, and, before leaving, crews took part in rowing, football, swimming and small-boat sailing events.

The idea for the annual training ship regatta - bringing together young sailors from many countries - originated in the UK in 1953.
