  • Description

A demonstration is favour of unilateral disarmament - not by Britain - but by the US: members of America's CNVA, Committee for Non-Violent Action, staged June 19 a protest against US Navy plans to build a fleet of Polaris missile submarines. Scene of protest - the New London, Connecticut, yard where the Polaris submarines are built.

CNVA demands unilateral disarmament by the US - claiming this would also help to freshen America's soured world popularity - and advocates refusal to serve in the armed forces, or to pay taxes to support defence spending.

Some CNVA protesters marched 300 miles from New York, carrying pacifist signs.
