Tanks and armoured cars protected the Arab and Israeli Foreign Ministers against a possible terrorist attack as they arrived in London on Monday (17 July). Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ibrahim Kamel, Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan and United States Secretary of States Cyrus Vance will begin a two day meeting at Leeds Castle, a fortress standing in its own lake, 35 miles (55 kms) southeast of London. This is the first meeting of the countries' Foreign Ministers since last January. Officials have emphasized that the talks are of an exploratory nature and each side's approach to the Gaza strip and the West Bank will be discussed in an effort to add to common ground. A United States spokesman has said that a new agreement is not expected to come from the meeting, but that hopefully both sides would go away prepared to meet again in the near future to continue negotiations for peace in the Middle East.
