    Background: The situation in Zanzibar, after the recent outbreak of inter-racial rioting, is returning to normal. Europeans are returning to the golf courses, and shops report "business as usual". A visible grim reminder of the terrible scenes of savagery is a grave on the beach.

    Major General Goodwin, G.O.C. East Africa Command, said that although Arabs were still reluctant to return to the rural areas, trade was returning to normal and road blocks had been removed.

    Two companies of troops flown from Kenya during the riots were due back in Nairobi June 14.
