Background: After making a 10,000-mile trek in a mass protest rally against atom bombs, 10,000 "peace marchers" in five groups arrived in Tokyo from all parts of Japan to rally in Hibiya Park Aug 5 - eve of their conference calling for total disarmament - on the 15th anniversary of the world's first atomic bomb explosion on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

Some disturbance by a group of ultra-rightists marred the peace marchers entry to the city. But they met swift counter measures by Tokyo riot police who bundled them into waiting police trucks.

Members of foreign delegations greeted the peace marchers at the Park - they included a Buddhist monk, an Australian, a Kenyan and one from Communist China. In all, more than 150 foreign delegates from 29 nations are in Tokyo for the rally and conference until Aug 9.

In Hiroshima Aug 6 Crown Prince Akihito led the nation in remembering the dead and injured at a ceremony at the Hiroshima Atom Bomb Memorial. Hiroshima anniversary demonstrations - many organised by the Communist Party - were coupled with demands for the withdrawal in Europe of NATO Forces.
