But, after one day of discussions they issued a communique announcing that they and the President of Benin, would be leaving for the Ivory Coast to inquire after the President's health.

SYNOPSIS: President Sangoule Lamizana of Upper Volta arrived in Lome on Tuesday (25 September), where he was greeted by Togolese President, Gnassingbe Eyadema. President Lamizana arrived just one day after Niger President Seyni Kountche. The three leaders are expected to discuss economic development and the possibility of expanding facilities at the port of Lome to the Upper Volta and Niger.

The three leaders belong to the five-member African Entente Council. The Council, which Includes Benin and the Ivory Coast, is a political and economic organisation, which is primarily aimed at promoting economic development. It is not known if President Houphouet-Boigny was expected to join the meeting, but there has been some concern of late about the health of the President -- who recently spent ten weeks in Switzerland for medical treatment.
