    TWO MEXICAN WARSHIPS PAID A WEEKEND COURTESY CALL ON THE BRITISH NAVAL BASE AT MALTA.

    THE TWO SHIPS -- THE "QUERETARO" AND THE "POTOSI" -- ARE CURRENTLY ON A TRAINING CRUISE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN. THEY HAVE AN ALREADY MADE CALLS AT OTHER EUROPEAN MILITARY ESTABLISHMENTS ALONG THE COASTLINE.

    THE "QUERETARO" IS COMMANDED BY CAPTAIN DE FREGATA, ENRIQUE AMADO AVILA. ALSO ON BOARD THE "QUERETARO IS REAR-ADMIRAL ENRIQUE CARRERA ALOMIA WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE 200 CADETS TRAINING IN THE SHIPS. THE CADETS COMPRISE A HALF OF EACH SHIP'S 200 STRONG CREW. THEY ARE FROM THE MEXICAN NAVAL SCHOOL.

    WITH THE "QUERETARO" IS HER SISTER SHIP, "POTOSI", COMMANDED BY CAPTAIN DE FREGATA, MANUEL BEJARANO MAGAMA. VICE ADMIRAL ALVARO SANDOVAL PAULIADA, ON BOARD THE "POTOSI" COMMANDS THE SQUADRON.

    WHILE THE COMMANDING OFFICER PAID A VISIT ON MALTA'S GOVERNOR, SIR MAURICE DORMAN, THE SHIPS' COMPANIES WERE ABLE TO VISIT THE MEDITERRANEAN ISLAND'S CAPITAL, VALLETTA.

    BOTH THE MEXICAN SHIPS ARE 1,300 TON GUNBOATS. THEY WERE LAUNCHED WITHIN A FEW WEEKS OF EACH OTHER IN 1934.
