Background: With only two races remaining in the 1974 World Driving Championship, five drivers will enter the Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport, Ontario, on Sunday with a Chance of winning the title.
Since the championship began in 1950, there have never been so many drivers still in with a chance at the start of the penultimate event. The three most fancied are Clay Regezzoni of Switzerland;, with 46 points. South African Jody Scheckter, with 45, and Emerson Fittipaldi of Brazil, with 43.
The other two within reach are Austrian Niki Lauda on 38, and Ronnie Peterson of Sweden with 31.
Sunday's race on the 2.45 mile (3.95 kms) Mosport track is highly significant, as it will be interesting to see if the main contenders go all out for victory or show restraint in the hope of collecting at least some points.
Thirty-one cars have ontered for the 196. 72-mile race.
