    THIRTY DRIVERS FROM SEVERAL COUNTRIES TOOK PART IN AN INTERNATIONAL GO-KART RACE ON SUNDAY AS PART OF SINGAPORE'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. THE EVENT WAS WON BY ONE OF ASIA'S TOP RACING DRIVERS, ALBERT POON, FROM HONGKONG.

    THE RACE WAS PART OF A SPORTS FESTIVAL AND DRIVERS FROM BRITAIN, THE PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, HONGKONG AND SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES TOOK PART.

    IT TOTALLED 47 MILES AND WAS RUN IN TWO HEATS NEAR THE SINGAPORE WATERFRONT. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE TWO LONG STRAIGHT STRETCHES, THE DRIVING WAS NOT EASY BECAUSE THE DRIVERS HAD TO NEGOTIATE OBSTACLES AND A TIGHT ROUNDABOUT.

    THE PACE OF THE FIRST HEAT OF 20 LAPS WAS TOO MUCH FOR SEVERAL CARS WHICH HAD TO PULL OUT.

    POON WAS FIRST OVER THE LINE TO TAKE THE PRIZE MONEY OF GBP208 (US $500) WITH PHILIP SEON OF SINGAPORE SECOND IN CAR NUMBER ONE. POON HAS WON A NUMBER OF MOTOR RACING TITLES IN ASIA INCLUDING THE SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.
