  • Description

Thailand and vietnam have signed an agreement which allows their airliners to fly through each others air space for the first time since the height of the Indo-China war.

SYNOPSIS: The signing of the agreement came at the end of a four-day visit to Bangkok by Vietnam's Foreign Minister, Nguyen Trinh. It's the first step in normalising air agreements between Vietnam and the rest of the World....a move which will ultimately save international air operators millions of dollars in fuel bills.

Vietnam's director-General of Civil Aviation, Mr Phung The Tai, and Thailand's Foreign Minister, Mr Upadit Pachariyangkun, initialled the document on behalf of their two countries.

The agreement means that Thai International will now be able to fly to Hong Kong via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, while air Vietnam will now be able to operate flights to Rangoon and Dacca via Bangkok. Thailand's Foreign Minister said the signing was an expression of the wish of both countries to establish close relations.

It's the second such agreement to be signed recently by Thailand....last month the Thais signed a similar accord with the Laos.
