    OFFICIALS FROM THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AIRLINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION (IFALPA) OPENED CRUCIAL TALKS WITH ALGERIAN GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES IN ALGIERS, THE CAPITAL, TONIGHT (FRIDAY). THE PILOTS REPRESENTATIVES DISCUSSED THE FATE OF THE DETAINED CREW OF THE ISRAELI EL AL AIRLINER HIJACKED THREE WEEKS AGO. A BOYCOTT OF ALGIERS AIRPORT IS DUE TO GO AHEAD WITHIN 48 HOURS UNLESS SOME AGREEMENT IS REACHED IN THE TALKS.

    CAPTAINS JAN BARTELSKI, PRESIDENT OF IFALPA, AND CAPTAIN VITALI NICOLAIEFF, THE FEDERATION'S VICE-PRESIDENT, HAD TALKS WITH OFFICIALS HEADED BY MR. LAYACHI YAKER, CHIEF OF ECONOMIC, FINANCIAL AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS AT THE ALGERIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY.

    THE IFALPA OFFICIALS WERE ALSO DUE TO MEET FOREIGN MINISTER ABDELAZIZ BOUTEFLIKA LATER TONIGHT, AND HAVE DECIDED TO PROLONG THEIR VISIT TO ALGIERS.

    THE SEVEN CREW MEMBERS OF THE BOEING 707 EL AL AIRLINER, TOGETHER WITH FIVE MALE PASSENGERS AND THE AIRCRAFT ITSELF, HAVE BEEN DETAINED IN ALGIERS SINCE JULY 23, ALGERIA HAS THREATENED TO TAKE RETALIATORY MEASURES IF THE PILOTS' BOYCOTT IS ENSURED.
