  • Description

Frelimo - the Mozambique Liberation Movement -- handed over a further 21 prisoners of war to a Portuguese Army representative in Tanzania on Monday. The men were then flown back to Mozambique in a Portuguese military aircraft.

The 21 men -- 18 black Mozambique prisoners and three white Portuguese -- boarded the 'plane wearing new clothes given to them by Frelimo.

They were handed over to Captain Jeronimo Teretreno by Frelimo Information Secretary, Jorge Rebello, who said they were being released under the terms of the Lusaka agreement. He called on the men to return to Mozambique to rebuild their country.

Monday's release of 21 men follows the earlier release of 187 prisoners. It completed the hand-over of all the prisoners held by Frelimo in Tanzania.

One of the white prisoners, who identified himself as Jones Mariatrigo, a policemen, said the prisoners were treated well. He said he hoped to return to a job in the Mozambique Police and if not accepted he would look for another job in Mozambique.
