Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip joined celebrities from the film world at the world premier of "Waterloo" in London tonight (Monday). "Waterloo", directed by the great Russian film director Sergei Bondarchuk and starring Rod Steiger as Napoleon and Christopher Plummer as Wellington, is one of the most expensive films ever made.

The film is evidence of growing cooperation between Russia and the West in the feature film industry. Of the GBP12 million needed to make the film, GBP8 million was put up by the Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis and the rest came from a Russian film company, who also threw in a complete brigade of Soviet cavalry and 20,000 soldiers of the Red Army.

To recreate the site of the famous battle in Belgium, a potato field in Russia was chose. The Russians bulldozed away two hills, laid five miles of roads and built an entire village before the battle scenes could be shot.
