One of Victoria's stately homes -- "Talindert" -- at Camperdown, where Princess Alexandra is to spend a weekend next month as the guest of Sir Chester and Lady Manifold. And to welcome the Royal visitor, preparations have been made to ensure the home's spacious gardens are at their best. It's Lady Manifold's task to supervise operations on the ten acres of gardens and lawns which surround her home. Three gardeners work constantly, keeping the property's gardens a show piece.
With her head gardener, Lady Manifold, inspects the terrace walk, suggesting improvements to the trees and beds, which in spring present a blaze of colour.
Sir Chester Manifold, chairman of the Victorian Racing Club, arrives at the stables to inspect one of his recently imported stallions, Rose Argent. The Princess, who shares the Royal Family's love of horses, will more than likely want to see some of Sir Chester's stud horses.
Another of Sir Chester Manifold's stallions -- Rowston Manor -- which once started favourite in the English Derby.
Princess Alexandra will be able to relax in this den where Sally Manifold keeps her collection of recorded music.
The sunlit den is a popular meeting place for the Manifold family, where flowers are again the theme.
In the drawing room, Lady Manifold matches material for suite coverings in honour of the Princess. There's a grand piano too ... the Princess is a keen jazz pianist.
